Junior Library Volunteers
Junior Library Volunteer (JLV) Application Newkirk Public Library
Have you completed 5th grade? Do you like to do things to help other people? Would you like to make some new friends?
Then maybe you would enjoy being a Junior Library Volunteer! JLV is a program at the Newkirk Public Library. JLV is for students who have completed the 5th grade or above. JLV is a way for young people, who enjoy reading and who appreciate the Library, learn how libraries work. JLV’s volunteer their time to the Library. In addition to the services this provides to the community, students are using talents and developing skills they can use later to get jobs. JLV’s work with Library staff members who develop programs for children and young people of all ages.
Qualifications of a Junior Library Volunteer (JLV) 1) Must enjoy working with books in a library environment. 2) Ability to listen and to follow directions. 3) Be an independent worker. 4) Enjoy helping in a group situation. 5) Enjoy working with and helping younger children. Duties & Responsibilities of a JLV 1) Help put materials together for Summer Reading—(cutting paper, dividing craft materials, decorating, etc.) 2) Help the children with crafts during the Summer Reading Program. 3) Clean the “E” collection book covers. 4) Shelve the “E” collection. Hours of a JLVJLV’s are allowed to work up to 5 hours a week. JLV’s are allowed to work ONLY when the librarians are available. (Hours will be posted.) JLV’s work voluntarily. JLV’s must keep track of their own hours. Librarian will certify hours periodically during the summer. JLV’s work with Library staff members who develop programs for children and young people of all ages.
