The Newkirk Public Library cannot control the information available over the Internet and is not responsible for its content. The Internet contains a wide variety of material and opinions from various points of view. Not all sources provide information that is accurate, complete or current, and some may be offensive.

Computer Policy Newkirk Public Library

1.      Fees:  There will be no charge for the use of the computer and the Internet, but the user must have a valid library card.  Damage Fees:  These fees will be calculated according to repair or replacement cost of equipment and programs. 

 2.      Children:  There will be no minimum age requirements for use of the computer.  However, children under 8, must be accompanied by an adult (over 18) who will supervise the child’s computer activity. 

 3.      Copyrighted and protected software:  Commercially produced software programs are protected by copyright laws.  Patrons are requested to heed these laws.

 4.      Hours of use:  The computer is available for use ONLY during the hours the library is open to the public.  At closing time, patrons are expected to leave regardless of where they are in a program.  There is a 20 minute time limit per patron if someone is waiting to use the computer.  Use may not exceed 2 hours in a single day.  Only one person per computer at all times. 

 5.      Security:  Software will not be left unattended or carried away from the computer to other areas of the library.  Also, outside software or discs will not be allowed.  Discs may be purchased at the front desk for $.50.

 6.     Library computer workstations may not be used to view sexually explicit material of any kind.  Any library staff member who observers a person viewing such material will direct that person to remove the material from the computer screen and to refrain from such material in the future.  Any person who refuses to comply with these directions will be asked to leave the library premises.  Library staff members may call law enforcement personnel to enforce the compliance.  Any user of the Internet who refuses to comply with the above is subject to loss of Internet privileges, indefinitely.

 Internet/Policy Rules 

1.    You must have a valid library card before using the Internet or computer.

 2.    There is a 20 minute time limit if a person is waiting to use the computer.

 3.    Computer use may not exceed 2 hours in a single day.

 4.    Only one person per computer.

 5.    Library staff will not provide training in the use of the Internet.

 6.    Library staff will not provide child care services.  We reserve the right to request patrons with disruptive children to leave.

 7.    Adult supervision is required for children 8 or younger.  Internet is unavailable to children 12 or younger if no adult supervision. 

 

8.    The Newkirk Library computers are for educational and research purposes only.  All usage of the Internet should be professional and appropriate for public viewing.

 9.     A $.15 per page charge will be collected for printed materials.

 10.           No outside software allowed.  Disks will be available at the front desk for $.50.

 11.           No down loading of Internet software to the hard drive is allowed.

 12.              Parents and guardians are responsible for their juvenile children while their children are at the library.  Children who are unable to look out for their own safety shall not be left unattended at the library.
